Jim Earl is a featured writer and performer on the David Feldman Comedy Podcast, where he's written for and performed with such big Hollywood star types as Patton Oswalt, Jeff Garlin, Robert Smigel, Rick Overton, Paul F. Tompkins, Paul Provenza, Greg Proops, Neal Brennan, Tom Kenny and Carlos Alazraqui.
Jim's band, The Clutter Family, released its eponymous debut CD in 2010. The collection of songs has been described as "a crabby, perverse, and catchy mixture of sardonic lyrics and upbeat melodies."
Jim grew up in the small college town of Claremont in Southern California where he learned a lot about smog. In 1984, he earned a degree from the University of California at Berkeley in the fast paced field of Art History. Two years later Jim moved to San Francisco where he and his high-school friend Barry Lank formed the comedy team of Lank and Earl which managed to thrive for ten-plus years, much to the puzzlement of their worried parents.
Jim, or "Mr. Earl," as his close friends call him, went on to become a writer for the popular The Daily Show. During his tenure there, he won the prestigious Emmy and Peabody Awards, which Jim discovered really doesn't seem to impress anybody important in the business, especially Jon Stewart.
After leaving The Daily Show, "Mr. Earl" went on to become a pioneer in Liberal Talk Radio as a charter writer and performer for Air America Radio. In addition to stealing office supplies and trying to figure out who the fuck was in charge, his work at Air America included creating, writing and performing the top-rated morning segments Rapture Watch, War on Brains, Morning Remembrance, Sammy the Stem Cell, Todd Brad: Policy Analyst and The 5 W's Plus 3 of Journalism. He also wrote the Morning Business Report and even pitched Future Marc for the Morning Sedition show starring Marc Maron and Mark Riley. Then somebody else got to write it. But I'm okay with that. Really. La la la la la. Following his stay at Air America, Jim moved to Los Angeles where he wrote and performed with host Marc Maron on the Marc Maron Show (KTLK 1150) Jim's characters are so incredibly, friggin' popular, they are currently archived for your listening pleasure here and on http://www.thesnotgreensea.com, a website created by a person Jim has never met, but still respects nonetheless. You can also see Jim in the documentary Left of the Dial where he is best remembered for the gratuitous use of foul expletives and the word "Thievery!"
Jim went on to become a staff writer on "TalkShow with Spike Feresten," a late-night comedy show on Fox. He also became head writer for the "Friday ITch," a weekly comedy show on TechWeb TV. He has also contributed to the Jackie Guerra Show and Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen.
